Heroic Act Turns Tragic: Indian-Origin Techie Succumbs to Drowning While Rescuing His Children
A tragic incident occurred in Florida, where a 42-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, Potti Venkata Rajesh Kumar, lost his life while trying to rescue his children from drowning. Rajesh Kumar, who was residing in the United States, drowned at a beach in Florida while enjoying a family outing. The unfortunate incident took place early on Sunday morning, and Rajesh’s younger brother, P Vijay Kumar, informed the media about the incident.
Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Addanki mandal in Bapatla district, was employed with a startup in the US. After receiving news of the tragic incident, N Chandrababu Naidu, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), reached out to the Indian External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, seeking assistance in repatriating Rajesh Kumar’s body and providing support to his grieving family.
Naidu, in his letter to the External Affairs Minister, shared the passport number and contact details of the deceased to facilitate the repatriation process. The software engineer’s family resides in the Bridge 7Water community in Florida, where Rajesh Kumar was living with his wife and two children.
The incident occurred as Rajesh Kumar and his family visited Jacksonville beach in Florida to celebrate the American Independence Day weekend, which coincides with a long holiday in the United States. While at the beach, Rajesh noticed that his children had gone farther into the sea and rushed to their aid. Although he successfully rescued his son, a massive wave overpowered him, dragging him back into the water.
When Rajesh was brought back to the shore, he was unconscious and was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital, along with his family members. Unfortunately, despite efforts to revive him, Rajesh Kumar could not be saved, and he succumbed to the incident. His son, who had also fallen unconscious due to water entering his lungs, responded to shock treatment at the hospital and is currently recovering in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Efforts are being made by the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) in the United States and the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) to assist in repatriating Rajesh Kumar’s mortal remains. The family has reached out to these organizations for help and support during this difficult time.
The untimely demise of Potti Venkata Rajesh Kumar has left his family devastated, and the community is rallying to provide support and assistance in bringing his body back to his hometown.
