Local officials in Annecy, southeast France, reported that a knife attack on Thursday resulted in the injury of eight individuals, including children.
Authorities have detained a male suspect in connection with the attack. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, accompanied by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, is scheduled to travel to Annecy on Thursday, as confirmed by the interior ministry.
François Braun, the Health Minister, expressed his concern for the victims of the knife attack through a tweet. He stated, “All my thoughts go immediately to the people injured by an individual armed with a knife in Annecy, and to their loved ones.” Braun also commended the prompt response of the emergency services, particularly the Urgent Medical Aid Service (SAMU), in providing assistance to the victims.
In a show of solidarity, lawmakers in the French National Assembly observed a minute’s silence to honor those injured in the attack.
