CSK star believes Gill could have been a key player for KKR

Shubman Gill is in the form of his life and is set to face his former team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2023 final on Monday.

Gill, who was released by KKR ahead of the 2022 season, has been in top form for Gujarat Titans (GT) this year. He has scored 851 runs in 16 matches at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43. He has also scored three centuries and four half-centuries.

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has slammed KKR for releasing Gill and said that it was a “blunder”.

“I still believe that his release from KKR will go down as the biggest blunder a franchise has made. The only other one was KL Rahul from RCB. However, there is age advantage here. Gill is still a very young man, he has got a lot of growth in his game. He can not only be the star for this GT star, especially after the next World Cup, he will be the backbone of this Indian side. And I think he will embrace that.” Styris told JioCinema.

Gill has been a key member of the GT batting line-up this season. He has formed a formidable opening partnership with Wriddhiman Saha and has helped the team to some big scores.

In the Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, Gill scored a sensational century to help GT reach the final. He is now all set to face his former team in the title clash.

Gill has come a long way since his days at KKR. He is now a more mature and confident batsman. He is also a more responsible batsman and is happy to take on the role of an anchor in the batting line-up.

Gill will be looking to play a big role in the final and help GT win their maiden IPL title.
