During the early hours of Saturday, a bus carrying 33 passengers caught fire on the Samruddhi Expressway near Sindkhedraja in Buldhana. Tragically, 25 passengers were charred to death, while the remaining eight survived, according to the police.

The Samruddhi Expressway, officially known as the ‘Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,’ is a 520-kilometer Phase-1 stretch of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg. This ambitious project, spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December of the previous year.

Thackeray described the Buldhana accident as both unfortunate and shocking. He emphasized that the Samruddhi Expressway has witnessed a staggering number of accidents, resulting in more than 300 fatalities within the past year alone. Expressing his disappointment with the government’s lack of action in curbing these incidents, Thackeray expressed hope that the Buldhana tragedy would finally prompt the authorities to address the issue.
