NEET PG Counselling 2023 Set to Begin Shortly; NMC Notifies on Seat Arrangement
National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that the commencement of NEET PG 2023 counselling is imminent, and this year’s admission process will consider the existing recognised/permitted seats at medical colleges. According to a recent notice by NMC, the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has received 2,828 applications from medical colleges/institutes for recognition or renewal of recognition of PG medical qualifications in 2022. Out of these, the board has already made decisions on 1,870 applications, while the remaining applications are still being processed.
Dr Vijay Oja, President of PGMEB at NMC, stated that the pending applications are currently being reviewed and evaluated. As NEET PG 2023 counselling is set to begin soon, the existing recognised/permitted seats at medical colleges will be considered for admission in the upcoming academic year. Dr Oja further explained that the seat matrix of institutes will be prepared accordingly, while allowing colleges to potentially reduce the number of seats in special circumstances.
The allocation of postgraduate medical seats through NEET PG follows a 50-50 distribution between states and the central government. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts the NEET PG counselling for the 50% all India quota seats, whereas candidates qualifying NEET PG 2023 for state quota seats must apply through their respective states. This ensures a fair and balanced approach to the seat allocation process.
With the announcement of NEET PG 2023 counselling approaching, aspiring medical students can anticipate the admission process to consider the available seats at medical colleges across the country. The NMC and PGMEB are diligently working to evaluate the applications for recognition of PG medical qualifications, and decisions on the remaining applications will be made in due course. As the counselling begins, candidates will have the opportunity to apply for seats in both all India quota and state quota categories, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive admission process.
