Jio Launches Internet-Enabled Jio Bharat Phone At Rs 999

Jio, a leading telecommunications company in India, has introduced the Jio Bharat phone priced at Rs 999. This internet-enabled phone comes with a cheaper monthly plan of Rs 123, offering unlimited voice calls and 14 GB of data. The primary objective behind this launch is to accelerate the “2G Mukt Bharat” vision and bridge the digital divide in the country.

India still has approximately 250 million mobile subscribers who are using outdated feature phones stuck in the 2G era. While the country is at the forefront of the 5G revolution with Jio’s True 5G network, a significant section of society is unable to fully experience the benefits of digital technology.

Jio Bharat aims to empower every Indian, especially those who cannot afford a smartphone, by providing them with access to digital services. The launch of this phone signifies the beginning of digital freedom for the 250 million feature phone users in India, ultimately reducing the digital disparity.

Starting from July 7, 2023, Jio will conduct a beta trial for the first one million Jio Bharat phones. Additionally, other phone brands, starting with Karbonn, will adopt the “Jio Bharat platform” to create their own Jio Bharat phones.

Jio Bharat is priced at Rs 999, making it the most affordable internet-enabled phone available. Moreover, it offers a monthly plan that is 30% cheaper and provides seven times more data compared to feature phone offerings from other operators.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, emphasized that despite the ongoing 5G revolution, there are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who are “trapped” in the 2G era, unable to access basic internet features. Jio aims to democratize the internet and ensure that technology is no longer a privilege limited to a select few.

The Jio Bharat phone represents another step in Jio’s commitment to delivering meaningful and valuable technology to different user segments. By providing affordable and accessible digital services, Jio aims to ensure that every individual in India can benefit from the advantages of a digital society.
